Pastor Rob and Chelsea are born and raised Vancouver Islanders. Chelsea grew up in Port Alberni, and Rob in greater Victoria. Early in their marriage, Rob communicated to Chelsea something along the lines of "I love you so much, but I never want to live in Port Alberni" (Note from Rob: This is probably bad marital practice, I don't recommend it!)
Little did he know, that God would one day change his heart, and open his eyes to envision a new work that God wanted to do in Port Alberni. Rob and Chelsea saw a new church, with a heart for 'outsiders'; somewhere someone who'd never been to church before could walk in and feel at home. They saw a church that would help normal, everyday, non-churchy people experience the healing and new life that Jesus brings.
Northgate Church is affiliated with the Foursquare Church of Canada. The 'four squares' emphasize Jesus. Specifically, they emphasize him as:
Saviour
Healer
Baptizer in the Holy Spirit
Soon-returning King
In September 2019, we launched our first Sunday morning service as a campus location of Northgate Church in Courtenay, BC. We wanted to be a church where non-church people could come and encounter Jesus. We got off to a momentous and exciting start! But mere months later, our dream was temporarily sidelined courtesy of the Covid-19 pandemic and related drama. So glad that's over!
But God is good! Our church plant surived the pandemic, and in September 2023 we relaunched! In January 2025 we officially transitioned from being a campus location of Northgate Church in Courtenay, BC, to being a chartered Foursquare church of our own.
We still believe that God called us to start a church in the Alberni Valley that would connect with people outside the walls of churches. Our mission is for anyone and everyone to have the opportunity to encounter the authentic, healing, life giving power of Jesus for their lives.
We presently meet in the gym of John Paul II Catholic School, 4006 8th Ave, Port Alberni BC.
10am every Sunday!
